Subject- Regarding closure of accounts/savings certificates freeze due to administrative reason (INOP).

Kindly refer Assam Circle letter ‘no SB11-2/BANKING/CBS/CPC12015-16/CH-II dated 05.02.2024 on the subject cited above.

2. A clarification has been sought by Assam Circle on the Para 3(iii) of SOP circulation through SB Order 25/2022 regarding the applicability of transfer fee of Rs 1184- in case account is closed by Head Post Office, as per the SOP.

3. In this connection, kindly refer the Rule 21(1)(ii) (a) to (d) of POSB (CBS) MANUAL (Corrected upto-2021), which clearly states that such cases (including accounts under Freeze reason code: INOP) not be treated as transfer, as being done due to administrative reason.

4. Further, such accounts. will be closed at concerned Head Post Office only and closure amount shall be credited into Post office Savings Bank Account or other Banks account of the customer. in case of account closure request is received at BO/SO under same HO or at other SO/HO, the case shall be forwarded to concerned Head Post Office for further necessary action. This may be brought to the notice of all concerned.

5. This issues with the approval of the competent authority.
