During the 8th review meting on Parcel tracker items chaired by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Communications, the matter for commercial viability of delivery essential items through drones in inaccessible areas camp up for discussion.
2. During the meeting it has been decided to explore the feasibility of delivery of Parcels through drones in remote and inaccessible areas specially during rainy season/winter and during any natural calamity. At times, state Government authorities also require delivery of essential items including medicine to be delivered in remote and inaccessible areas.
3. In view of the above, it is requested to explore the possibilities of using drones for delivery of essential items in remote and inaccessible areas on a regular basis or on demand as the case may be. It is further suggested to consult the respective State Governments and give a detailed report on the location where drone delivery is feasible and State governments are willing to utilize the drone delivery services. Feasibility of a tie-up with the State Governments for delivery through Drone may also be explored.
4. Parcel Directorate will examine the economics viability of drone delivery in such areas keeping in view the availability of drone service providers in respective areas.
5. It is therefore requested to approach the State Government authorities and solicit response in this regard. Comprehensive report may be submitted to Parcel Directorate by 20.10.2022.
